As a rule of thumb, after new springs have been installed and the garage door operates perfectly manually (opening and closing), then the correct torsion springs have been installed, but if the garage door is heavy to lift by hand or it is unable to travel smoothly without any force up to the existing lintel, then the garage door may be unsafe to operate.
